Early warning system and tools

Monitor food security alerts and stability status across the UAE. The Early Warning Hub consolidates alerts and data from multiple early warning systems to identify unusual periods of excessive price variability and mitigate risks.

Alerts

  • Record rainfall pummeled the UAE and Oman during April 22, 2024, and a brief look back at historic weather data shows just how unusual it was.
  • The United Arab Emirates registered a sizzling 51.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday May 24, 2025, breaking its May temperature record for the second day in a row. The desert nation lies in one of the world's hottest regions and is at risk of severe heat waves due to climate change
  • As part of UAE's efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, Emirati nationals are prohibited from travelling abroad, effective March 18, 2020 and until further notice
  • Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) seized 749 tons of imported food deemed unfit for human consumption at Abu Dhabi’s land, sea, and air entry points in 2024
  • Five Abu Dhabi restaurants and one supermarket closed over food safety breaches
  • The pandemic exposed the vulnerability of import-dependent countries to supply chain disruptions. The UAE, however, avoided major shortages due to its pre-existing food security initiatives
  • The UAE's heavy reliance on imported food makes it vulnerable to global supply chain disruptions and price fluctuations but also creates a scope of strategic relations binding the bilateral parties involved
